MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala.-- Lt. Col. Richard Major assumes command of the re-activated 38th Student Squadron during the Air Command and Staff College 38th STUS activation and Assumption of Command Ceremony here Nov. 2, 2015.
Before assuming command of the 38 STUS, Major was the 21st STUS director of operations and prior to that served as the ACSC Distance Learning Curriculum Department deputy chairman.
“His superior performance in the last four years have resulted in him being stratified as the number one person in every department that we put him in. We look forward to seeing his performance here, and I expect nothing but great things from Rich, his family and the 38th STUS,” said Col. Brian Hastings, ACSC commandant.
The 38th STUS’s mission is to cultivate the professional development, airpower education and personal growth of rising military and civilian leaders for the next generation of the Air Force. However, the squadron has a reserved place in Air Force history.
The 38th STUS was first activated August 1, 1972, at Laredo AFB, Texas, it would go on to be inactivated September 30, 1972 and reactivated another two times before being activated again here at ACSC.
“The heritage of this squadron goes back to the 70’s and even though it is not a very long history, it’s a history of constant shaping and establishing our future generation of Airmen,” said Major. “Today that heritage is all about ACSC students becoming critical thinkers, to go out and do amazing things. I know we are living in a challenging time right now, but I do know that we are in good hands. I see it every day in the amazing things you do…and I’m really excited to be a part of that and I’m excited to be a part of this organization.
