PHILIPPINE SEA– Chief petty officers and first class petty officers aboard the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) gathered in the ship’s forc’sle for the CPO 365 kick-off meet and greet Nov. 9.
CPO 365 is a year-round program established Navy-wide to provide training for first class petty officers for their role as future chief petty officers. CPO 365 is broken down into two Phases, I and II.
According to Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens, “Developing effective leaders does not happen in a few short weeks, it is a continuous and never-ending process. CPO 365 is instrumental to the professional growth of Sailors and relevant to command esprit de corps.”
Phase I is the building blocks for developing teamwork, community presence and time management ensuring the basics for a solid foundation are set. Some have seen the benefits of the program and are excited for what’s to come.
“I am definitely excited to fellowship with my brothers and sisters from the First Class Mess and excited for the guidance and mentorship from the Chiefs.” said First Class Petty Officer Association President, Information Systems Technician 1st class Monica Bolton. “This will be a great year and I am ultimately looking forward to the camaraderie and leadership!”
Physical training is encouraged to help build camaraderie in addition to training topics such as mentorship, career development boards, Career Navigator, Navy equal opportunity and Naval heritage.
“365 enables us to build a mess that everyone wants to be a part of, both Chief and first class,” said Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman Oniel Lewis, Phase I lead coordinator. It’s our responsibility to build it and the only way to make that happen is by supporting each other and participating.”
Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
