    FORT HOOD, Texas - First Lieutenant Lt. Jeffrey R. Meek will receive the Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH) that saved his life in a ceremony, Nov. 13, 2015, on Fort Hood, Texas.

    WHO: 1st Lt. Jeffrey R. Meek

    WHAT: Will receive the Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH) that saved his life in a ceremony. Officials from Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier at Fort Belvoir, Va., will make the presentation in a ceremony with Meek in front of his fellow Soldiers and unit leadership. PEO Soldier is the Army unit responsible for equipping Soldiers with protective body armor, helmets, uniforms, individual and crew served weapons, and sensors and lasers. Media will get an opportunity to photograph and shoot videos during and after the event, and interview Meek and PEO Soldier officials after the presentation.

    WHEN: 10 a.m. Nov. 13, 2015 on Fort Hood; Duration: 30 minutes

    WHY: On April 23, 2013, then - 2nd Lt. Jeffrey Meek was serving in Afghanistan with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. On that day, his dismounted unit came under small arms fire. An insurgent’s bullet struck his ACH and partially penetrated and traveled across the left side and out the back of his Army Combat Uniform (ACU). By diverting the bullet, the ACH saved Meek’s life.
