Story by Tech. Sgt. Genevieve Armstrong and Staff Sgt. Erin Mills

    2D Audiovisual Squadron

Retired Chief Master Sgt. Bob Vasquez joined the Air Force on February 1, 1972, and spent 24 years playing with the United States Air Force bands throughout the world. He also served as Commandant of the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at March Air Force Base, Calif., Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander of the 92nd Airlift Wing at Fairchild AFB, Wash., Deputy Director of the Family Support Center and superintendent for the 86th Mission Support Group at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

As part of the band, Vasquez had the honor and opportunity to play for every president from Nixon to Clinton.

A huge milestone in Vasquez’s career was making chief. “We all strive for that last stripe and once I made chief, I could finally do what I wanted, what I joined to do, help people,” said Vasquez.

He is now an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. “I have been doing this job since 2002, and it is a very rewarding job because I get to touch the future leaders of America every day,” said Vasquez.

Vasquez is also a musician, speaker, life coach and mentor. He resides in Colorado Springs, Colo. with his wife, Debbie, of 28 years and his two daughters, Tesa and Elyse.
