PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii - Adm. Scott Swift, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Pacific Fleet Master Chief Suz Whitman co-hosted an all-hands call for more than 350 Sailors stationed around Hawaii at Pearl Harbor Nov. 4.

“It’s your individual contribution that you’re making every day that leads to the collective mission advancement in the PACFLT AOR,” said Swift. “Think in terms of your individual contribution as you head home tonight and take credit for that.”

Whitman also opened with a few motivating remarks for the Sailors.

“Everybody in this room provides to the fight and that makes you relevant,” Whitman said. “You, the Sailors, are the most important asset to the Navy. Your attitude sets your altitude, so I ask you to soar high.”

After their brief remarks, Swift and Whitman opened the floor to the Sailors for questions.

The questions ranged from maternity and paternity leave, physical fitness and supply issues to deployment schedules and the overall state of the Pacific Fleet.

“The only Navy that is more powerful than the Pacific Fleet is the Unites States Navy,” said Swift. “So we have an awful lot of resources to get after the challenges we face forward in the Pacific. We need to go about it smartly as opposed to throwing it on the backs of Sailors.”

“It was a great opportunity for us to meet the senior leadership and hear them speak to us about what’s going on in the region and more importantly answer our questions,” said Legalman 1st Class David Forrest, of Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet. “The admiral comes across as a people-first kind of leader. He seems genuinely concerned with finding solutions to the Sailors’ questions.”

Swift and Whitman will also be hosting a town hall meeting at the Ford Island Conference Center Nov. 14 at 1800.
