NMCB 3 Builds Relationship with local Elementary Schools in Southern Palawan, Philippines

PALAWAN, Philippines (NNS) - Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3’s Construction Civic Action Detail (CCAD), Palawan, volunteered to assist local teachers during Teacher Appreciation Day at Palawan, Philippines, Oct. 5.

The seven Seabees read their favorite short stories and played outdoor activities with children from the Calategas and Cabuluan Elementary Schools in Barangay Calategas, Municipality of Narra.

“Working with the local school children was inspirational,” said Builder Constructionman Micah Parks. “Seeing and spending time with the kids allowed me to understand why I am here and the effects we’re making on the local community.”

Construction Electrician 2nd Class Lenard Verdan, native born in Makati, Philippines, shared his story of growing up in the United States with the children.

“I am proud to be able to revisit my home country and help the local children further their education,” said Verdan.

The Seabees, working together with Mr. Nestor Lagrade, the school’s principle and Mr. Angelo Cinco, teacher-in-charge, coordinated their respective events

“It has been a big relief to know that the U.S. Navy Seabees are willing to support our goal on education,” said Cinco.

The CCAD's mission is to execute engineering civic assistance projects, conduct skills exchanges with the host nation, and perform community relations events to help enhance shared capabilities and maintain relationships.
