    82nd Combat Aviation Brigade

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Soldiers who work at the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade’s supply, support and activity warehouse work extended hours and play an essential role in the brigade’s overall mission.

The SSA platoon provides the 82nd CAB’s units with logistical support, handling in excess of 2,000 daily transactions that involve everything from office supplies to aircraft rotary blades.

“The overall mission of the SSA is to provide supplies for our customers,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Claudia S. Snowden, SSA accountable officer, assigned to Company A, 122nd Aviation Support Battalion, 82nd CAB, 82nd Airborne Division.

Snowden said the support her Soldiers provide must remain constant in order to meet the customer’s needs.

“The role we play is crucial because aircraft can’t fly or ground vehicles can’t move if maintainers don’t have the parts to fix them,” added Snowden.

The workflow at the SSA is steady, as Soldiers perform numerous tasks and take on a vast array of responsibilities. Their efforts have contributed to the turn in of excess parts and supplies back to the Army’s supply system.

After years of overstocked supplies in shelves, the SSA has taken the initiative to identify inventory and prepare all excess parts and supplies no longer needed or with demands. This had allowed the SSA to reinsert those items back into the Army supply system to be used by units in need.

“In our most recent turn-in into the Logistics and Readiness Center, the SSA was able to turn-in a little more than $4 million in a 3 week period,” said Snowden.

The SSA operates in two warehouse on Simmons Army Airfield and is broken down into five sections: stock control, receiving, turn-in, storage and issuing of supplies.

“On a day-to-day operations, the Soldiers come in early to check what orders have been made ensuring all necessary angles are covered,” said Snowden. “It isn’t uncommon to receive four or more truckloads of civilian or military vendors dropping off equipment, there is always work to be done.”

The Soldiers at the SSA establish a good working relationship with their customer units and organizations that depend on the services, said Spc. Donald Bookhart, automated logistical specialist, Company A, 122nd Aviation Support Battalion, 82nd CAB, 82nd Airborne Division.

“As long as we provide adequate customer support [supplies] to our fellow Soldiers, we’re contributing to the overall mission,” said Bookhart.
