Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center

MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Martin has a background as a physical trainer and regularly refines his skills in photography. He hopes to one day start a business in action photography.

•I grew up in small-town, Monroe, Ga., and have always been into various types of arts. I acted in theatre and took photography and art classes.

•In high school I played varsity soccer and was lucky enough to travel back and forth to England multiple times. I was able to see different cultures and have new subjects to photograph.

•I’m a huge fan of culture and I feel like there’s no better way to express culture than to capture a photo of it. The most unique aspect of photography is everyone has a different viewpoint on what they’re capturing.

•Twentynine Palms is a great place for me to improve my photography skills. Whether it’s the natural landscapes or animals, I’ve been able to capture a lot of good shots.

•Growing up, I embraced landscape and action photography because I was always around it. Whether I was rock climbing, traveling, or meeting new people, I always took my camera with me.

•I enjoy using digital software like Photoshop and Lightroom, but to get the best photo, you have to be in the right place at the right time. Sometimes I’ll wait all day just to get good natural lighting.

•When I was 18, I started working at a local recreation department. At age 20, I became the athletic coordinator. I was able to cut program costs by using my own camera instead of hiring photographers to take team photos.

•I started a personal training business when I was 21. It ended up helping me prepare physically for the Marine Corps.

•I’m close with my family. My father was apprehensive about me joining the Marine Corps at first, but my parents and two older sisters have been continually supportive.

•I’m training as a cyber networks specialist because it transitions really well into the civilian world. I’m looking forward to building a good foundation on being technologically proficient.

•I’ve learned how to associate and identify with people from different backgrounds and the Marine Corps has also been a great tool for networking.

•There are many Marines I look up to and there’s always something new to learn from them.

•Once my military career is done, I plan to move into photography. My goal is to travel while experiencing more cultures and capturing as much as I can.
