MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The II Marine Expeditionary Force’s safety department conducted a safety exposition to inform Marines and sailors of various ways they can help prevent injury and remain healthy, aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept. 30, 2015.

A variety of vendors attended the event to ensure service members were provided a wealth of knowledge ranging from gun safety to dental hygiene.

“The purpose is to get all the different vendors together in one location to present and give out safety information so they can get everything they need at one place,” said Mike Gallagher, a civilian contractor with the II MEF safety department. “We have the sheriff’s department, rail-
road safety, base safety and the list goes on.”

II MEF is a force of readiness; they train day after day to maintain their readiness and skills needed to accomplish any mission that comes their way.

“The information here that is disseminated to all these Marines and sailors is vital to the readiness for II MEF,” said Debby Babner, the mishap tracking and analysis manager.

Although some people may not think of safety issues when talking about the Marine Corps’ ability to rapidly deploy, it is vital to their mission readiness.

“Think of dental safety,” said Babner. “If you have dental issues you can’t deploy, so informing these service members of dental safety is just one of many ways we’re keeping the Marines and sailors ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.”

Throughout the day, approximately 500 Marines and sailors attended the expo and gained better awareness of safety standards.

“I feel as if we made a difference,” said Babner. “Marines were able to ask questions and get informed on some things they knew very little about, such as fire alarms in your house, and if everyone walked away with a little more information that is a step in the right direction.”
