Altus AFB begins 24/7 fitness center access

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, OK, UNITED STATES

Story by Airman 1st Class Megan Myhre

    97th Air Mobility Wing

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The 97th Air Mobility Wing Fitness Center will be accessible 24/7, beginning Oct. 1.

As part of an Air Force Services Transformation Initiative, the 97th Force Support Squadron has implemented these unmanned hours at the fitness center to provide more convenient access to the base populous, including active duty military members, DoD civilians, military retirees and their dependents.

This initiative is intended to boost morale and to provide fitness center access to Airmen who work alternative shifts.

To provide this service, the fitness center acquired additional surveillance cameras and an entry access computerized security system, for those with a registered common access card or fitness access card.

A statement of understanding was developed for unsupervised use of the facility due to operational risk management assessments that were conducted during the planning stage of the initiative.

This statement will help ensure the Airmen and dependents who use the fitness center after hours have the proper safety and security guidance to use the facility.

All CAC holders are required to register their CAC and sign a Statement of Understanding at the fitness center and all other personnel with gym privileges will be provided a fitness access card. To register, visit the fitness center’s customer service counter Tuesdays and Thursday between 9-11 a.m. and 5-8 p.m.

Registering is mandatory prior to using the card for 24-hour access, and takes less than three minutes per card.

    The gym will be staffed Monday-Friday from 5 a.m.-midnight and Saturday-Sunday from 8 a.m.-11 p.m.

When the fitness center staff departs at the gym’s closing each day, all visitors will be required to exit the facility briefly and re-enter using their card to maintain accountability during the gym’s unmanned hours.

For more information contact the base fitness center staff at 580-481-7153 for more information.
