Brig. Gen. Renwick Payne, the Adjutant General of the District of Columbia Army National Guard (DCNG) met with the Jamaica Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Marsha Coore-Lobban during an official State Partnership Program (SPP) visit to DCNG headquarters, Sept.12. Payne and his staff highlighted the advantages of teaming up with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

In a presentation during the visit, DCNG SPP Coordinator Capt. Tamara Tomlinson touted the success of the program and its impact on mission readiness.

“We will continue to promote our relationship by conducting exchanges that promote the stability and capabilities of the SPP,” Tomlinson said.

According to Tomlinson, a chief advantage of the partnership is the opportunity for the DCNG and JDF to share ideas and participate in side-by-side training events. Some of the opportunities include disaster preparedness and crisis management, military and civilian medical and engineer activities, border and port security and key infrastructure and resources protection.

Following the meeting, Payne presented Coore-Lobban with a “Capital Guardians” tee-shirt, a special gift from the DCNG.

“We are glad Jamaica has requested and accepted to partner with the DCNG. They made the right choice,” Payne said.

Coore Lobban expressed appreciation for the hospitality and support.

“Thank you, sir. We really appreciate the support and assistance you’ve given us with the exchange and partnership. Thank you for hosting me today,” she said.

During her visit, Coore-Lobban became familiar with the storied history of the DCNG’s in a tour of the in-house museum. She particularly admired the JDF military uniform, medals and a replica of a well-known Jamaica soft drink on display in an exhibit solely dedicated to the DCNG-JDF partnership.

“I am very impressed,” she said.

Coore-Lobban also participated in a morale-building family and friends cookout held at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. during her visit.
