DAKAR, Senegal – Crisis response forces from Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa are currently validating a site known as a cooperative security location in Senegal that will make these Marine forces more responsive in the event of a situation endangering Americans.

While in Senegal, the Marines and Sailors, based out of Morón Air Base, Spain, are scheduled to conduct training with Senegalese forces, continuing our long-standing military cooperation.

“The connections we've made with the Senegalese military – an important security partner – improves our shared readiness,” Ambassador James Zumwalt explained. “This training will enhance our collective security.”

This exercise includes approximately 200 Marines and Sailors in Dakar, Senegal. This validation process began Sept. 5.

U.S. Africa Command has response forces with a broad range of capabilities, including the ability to provide humanitarian assistance and crisis response, based on requests from the Department of State or our partner nations. While in Senegal, the unit is scheduled to conduct training with Senegalese military forces, as requested by U.S. Africa Command.
