GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The North Dakota National Guard’s 81st Civil Support Team, in conjunction with local emergency response agencies, will conduct a short-notice emergency response exercise beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 17. Soldiers and local officials will be alerted to the mission — likely to be a simulated chemical and radiation response and they will respond as if it’s a real-world situation in order to fine-tune their response procedures.
The exercise will take place at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, where any number of disaster or emergency response scenarios may occur. Teams will react immediately to identify, evaluate, minimize and eliminate threats, in their quest to protect the civilian population.
The 81st Civil Support, comprised of North Dakota National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, stands ready to respond immediately, at any time of day or night, to chemical, nuclear, biological, radiological and explosive hazards.
The training will continue most of the day, until all of the objectives have been met.
