108th Training Command- Initial Entry Training

The 108th Training Command (IET), U.S. Army Reserve, will hold a change of command ceremony at 8 a.m. Sept. 20, 2015, at Victory Field located on Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Maj. Gen. Mark T. McQueen will assume command from Maj. Gen. Leslie A. Purser, who has served as the 108th Commanding General since July 13, 2013.

Activated as the 108th Airborne Division after World War II (1946), the 'Golden Griffons' were originally headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The division was called the 'Golden Griffons' because of its initial air-ground mission. Griffons are legendary animals from Greek mythology that are half-lion and half-eagle that were known for their courage and ferocity. Griffons were so feared by ancient people that rulers of Asian provinces used them to guard their vast treasures. In October 2008 the 108th Division (IT) became the 108th Training Command (IET).

Today, the 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training) is the premiere U.S. Army Reserve command focused on turning citizens into warriors nationwide. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the 108th is one of the largest training commands in the U.S. Army Reserve with three Divisions spread across the Continental United States and Puerto Rico. The Divisions conduct Basic Combat Training (BCT), one Station Unit Training (OSUT), and Leader Training (LT) at six Army Training Centers. The mission is critical to providing new Soldiers and Officers to support the future needs of the Army and Army Reserve.

McQueen currently serves as the Deputy Commanding General, Mobilization and Reserve Affairs, United States Army Europe.

After relinquishing command, Purser takes over as special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs).
