CAMP ZAMA, Japan - U.S. Army Dental Activity-Japan hosted the reopening ceremony Sept. 2 in front of the Camp Zama Dental Clinic.

“Our mission is to ensure the dental readiness of the Soldiers and enhance oral wellness for all authorized beneficiaries of Japan and Okinawa,” said Maj. Demarcio Reed, commander of DENTAC-J. “This facility will provide our community many years of quality oral health care.”

The official party, which included Maj. Gen. James F. Pasquarette, commander of the U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward), Col. John Etzenbach, commander of the Pacific Regional Dental Command, and Col. John S. Hurley, commander of the Japan Engineer District, joined Reed to conduct the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Master of ceremonies, Capt. James Lee, assigned to DENTAC-J, said that the ribbon cutting ceremony signifies the official reopening of the Camp Zama Dental Clinic and it symbolizes the culmination of all the hard work and dedication of those who made this project a success.

Reed said the purpose for the renovation was to provide a better layout for the updated equipment.

Sgt. 1st Class Jessica Moore, a senior dental noncommissioned officer assigned to DENTAC-J, said the biggest upgrades were the new design of the inside of the building and a better sterilization room.

“What you can expect is the state of the art equipment, competent and skillful providers and better quality of care,” said Reed.

The goal is to get wellness from 73 percent to 100 percent — that may be an unrealistic goal, Reed continued, but it will give DENTAC-J something to strive for.

Moore said that DENTAC-J’s mission is to provide the best oral care to all of the local community.

“DENTAC-J makes a committed effort to be a leader among dental readiness and awareness throughout the Pacific,” said Reed.

“With [our] newly innovated clinic, all patients will now have proper privacy,” said Moore.

After the ceremony, Moore gave a grand tour of the renovated facility to the official party and other distinguished guests and community members.
