OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea - Airmen and Soldiers from all ranks came out to the Mustang sports field here Aug. 28, 2015, to participate in the Women’s Equality Day Warrior Challenge.

On Aug. 26, 1920, U.S. women were granted the right to vote when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was certified; Women’s Equality Day celebrates that passing.

“Celebrating something so monumental that women had to overcome can give faith to others who are struggling with inequality in their life,” said Senior Airman Julia, 6th Intelligence Squadron participant. She added, “I like being active, I always have fun doing these events.”

The challenge put five teams of three Airmen and one team of Soldiers from Team Osan against each other in a race with anaerobic, muscular and mental challenges to test who had the best team. The 6th IS took first place in the competition.

“It was tough but fun,” said Tech. Sgt. Joshua 6th IS participant. “The tire flipping was my favorite part and the competition aspect made us push that much harder to win.”

Some of the event stations were a litter carry, unexploded-ordnance identification, team low crawl with a dummy M-4 and a quiz toward the end of the race that had questions about women in history. The kicker was the answers to the questions were located at each of the exercise stations so participants had to memorize the information while completing the challenges.

Women's Equality Day is a day proclaimed each year by the president. Every president has published a proclamation for Women's Equality Day since 1972, the year after legislation was first introduced in Congress.
