CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Jen Merlo will move mountains to throw Cherry Point Marines a party they will look back to throughout their careers.
As a result, Merlo, the Cherry Point Single Marine Program coordinator, was joined by more than 600 Marines and Sailors who attended the “For the Leathernecks IV” Comedy and Entertainment Tour at the air station Aug. 21.
The event featured comedian Dat Phan, artists Thousand Foot Krutch, Lacey Strum, DJ Big Mike, and the Charlotte Hornets Honey Bees dance team.
“Having our commands grant us the opportunity for a while to get out of work to see these entertainers perform is a humbling experience,” said Lance Cpl. Luis Amador Flores, an administrative specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron. “It shows us people care about the work we do every day.”
According to Flores, the event also allowed the Marines to decompress from the stresses of everyday work. It brought the Marines together to enjoy great music and entertainment in the company of their fellow service members.
The show is held every year by the SMP with preparation starting as early as eight months in advance, explained Merlo. The event has been held at Cherry Point for the past four years.
Knowing that all the hard work service members put in does not unnoticed gives many of the Marines a morale boost as they continue accomplishing quality work for the air station and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, said Flores.
