BISMARCK, N.D. – Outside the Wire, a social impact company, will present a free performance of the Theater of War: Soldiers and Citizens Tour at Sydney J. Lee Auditorium at Bismarck State College on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
The Theater of War: Soldiers & Citizens Tour features dramatic readings of Sophocles’ Ajax — an ancient Greek tragedy about the suicide of a great, respected warrior — to diverse military and civilian audiences in order to engage communities in powerful town hall discussions about the visible and invisible wounds of war. The presentations are intended to foster understanding and compassion, while mobilizing citizens and resources to help improve the lives of service members, veterans, their families and people in their communities.
The performances will feature the actor Jay O. Sanders (JFK, Law and Order and Green Lantern) and Tony award winning actress Maryanne Plunkett (House of Cards, The Good Wife and The Squid and the Whale) in a reading from scenes from Sophocles’ Ajax, followed by a lively, facilitated town hall discussion about the challenges faced by service members, veterans, and their families today.
Each performance is approximately 90 minutes long. The reading from the play will be followed by discussion with panelists from the local civilian and military communities, and a facilitated town-hall style audience discussion.
