BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard presented a Bronze Star on Aug. 28, 2015, in Baltimore to a former commander of the USCG Redeployment Assistance and Inspection Detachment team stationed in Bahrain.
Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Thompson received the Bronze Star, awarded by the Army, at the Coast Guard Sector Baltimore all-hands meeting for his wartime service as the commander of the USCG RAID team in Afghanistan and Kuwait from June 14, 2014, to May 31, 2015.
The citation read as follows:
Thompson's leadership and professionalism exemplify the highest values of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army. His actions reflect great credit upon himself, the 559th Transportation Brigade (SDDC), 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), United States Coast Guard, and the United States Army.
"The men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard put their lives on the line on a daily basis, across the world, protecting the safety and security of this country," said Cmdr. Michael Batchelder, deputy commander at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. "We are particularly proud of Lt. Cmdr. Thompson's work as commander of the RAID team and the assistance both he and his team provided in helping to get soldiers on target in support of operations in the Middle East."
“The Bronze Star is a testament to his level of sacrifice,” added Batchelder, “and we thank him and his family.”
“We thank our brothers of the U.S. Army's 595th Transportation Brigade for formally recognizing one of our best,” said Batchelder.
