MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, Romania - Operation Swift Response 15 highlights the inherent flexibility of ground and air forces to rapidly respond to crises allowing for the right presence where we need it, when we need it.
The airborne operation that occurred today as part of the ongoing exercise took place near-simultaneously in two countries, Germany and Romania, which demonstrates the interoperability among NATO allies.
The XVIII Airborne Corps serves as the rapidly deployable Joint Task Force-capable headquarters for the US Global Response Force or GRF.
The GRF is comprised of Air Force, Marine, and Naval forces capable of responding in short-notice. The 82nd Airborne Division provides the GRF with an Airborne Infantry Brigade Combat Team that, when supported by Joint Fires and Mobility Air Forces, executes Joint Forcible Entry Operations.
The XVIII Airborne Corps and 82nd Airborne Division are both capable of conducting mission command en route to the objective and establishing an early entry command post on the drop zone no later than P + 1 hour, that continues to build capability as heavy-drop vehicles are recovered and airlands deliver follow-on forces.
The GRF can launch from either Fort Bragg, N.C., or from Intermediate Staging Bases.
