    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

SLOAN, Nev. – The Honorable Debra S. Wada, Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, visited the George W. Dunaway Army Reserve Center in Sloan, Nevada, Aug. 7. This advanced Army Reserve Center is home to the 63rd Brigade Support Battalion and Supervisory Staff Administrator Ms. Teresa M. Gonzalez was on hand to lead Secretary Wada through the facility.

Secretary Wada is responsible for the supervision of the manpower, personnel and Reserve Component affairs for the Department of Army. She serves as the Army's lead for policy and performance oversight of human resources (military, civilian and contractor), training, readiness, mobilization, military health affairs, force structure, manpower management and other critical matters as part of the Army leadership.

“I came to Las Vegas for the NTC exercise and I wanted to visit one of the local reserve centers,” said Secretary Wada. “I wanted to visit some of the Soldiers and find out what are the challenging issues and concerns.”

This state of the art building was nominated and approved for the Net Zero Program, which concentrates on energy, water and waste. The goal is to reduce estimated energy use by eight percent, which could have an overall savings of approximately one hundred thousand dollars a year.

Secretary Wada toured the facility and met many of the office workers. Very inquisitive, she asked questions from manpower and training issues to civilian support and physical fitness standards.

“The 311th Expeditionary Support Command is truly honored that Secretary Wada made time in her busy schedule and went to great efforts to visit one of our units,” said Col. Scott Linton, 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command chief of staff. “Brig. Gen. Elwell is extremely proud of the Soldiers and civilians of the 63rd Brigade Support Battalion and knows this modernized Army Reserve Center is in great hands.”

This reserve center was designed to accommodate nearly 1,000 Soldiers. It includes a 101,000 square foot building with a 5-bay vehicle maintenance facility, as well as an abundance of admin offices.

Secretary Wada was clearly impressed with the size and modernization of the facility saying, “This building is wonderful and I hope it serves our Soldiers well.”

The 63rd BSB is one of three U.S. Army Reserve units that are structured to support the Maneuver Enhancement Brigades with all classes of supply, field maintenance and transportation in a constantly changing environment.

The 311th ESC’s mission is to provide mission command for attached units executing logistical support as well as sustainment to include distribution, theater opening, reception, staging, and onward movement for Army forces.
