    Fort Hood range road closures begin Aug. 12: West Range and Georgetown Roads closed

    FORT HOOD, Texas - In preparation for 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division's upcoming National Training Center rotation, the brigade will conduct "Ironhorse Challenge" in the Fort Hood training areas Aug. 12-25.

    Beginning Aug. 12, Old Georgetown Road will be closed during the 14-day exercise. All western exits off of West Range Road will also be closed; however, West Range Road will remain open.

    In preparation for this exercise, there will be an increase in military vehicle traffic on these roads beginning Aug. 10. It is recommended all civilian traffic use Highway 116 for the duration of the exercise. The only civilian traffic allowed in the exercise area are those with a vehicle pass issued by range control.

    Manned traffic control points will be set up at the following locations through the exercise period:
    - Old Georgetown Road at Tank Destroyer
    - West Range Road at Old Georgetown Road
    - Elijah Road at Fort Hood Boundary
    - Elijah Road at West Range Road

    Additionally, barricades will be placed at the following intersections:
    - Antelope Road at Fort Hood Boundary
    - Shell Mountain Road at Fort Hood Boundary
    - Royalty Ridge Road at West Range Road
    - Browns Creek Road at West Range Road
    - Manning Mountain Road at West Range Road
    - Old Georgetown Road at Bald Knob Road.
