KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - Staff Sgt. David W. Maybury, a training noncommissioned officer for Higher Headquarters Command, 7th Civil Support Command and a native of Puyallup, Washington, is this week's 21st Theater Sustainment Command Warrior of the Week.
Questions and Answers
Q: How long have you been doing your job?
A: I have been a training NCO here for the past 23 months.
Q: What are your goals?
A: My short term goal is to complete my bachelor’s degree in organizational management with a minor in sports and recreational management. My long term goal is to retire from the military as a warrant officer and pursue a career as a high school teacher/football coach.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: My hobbies are fitness, football, softball, extreme sports and spending time with friends and family.
Q: What do you like most about the Army?
A: What I like most is the bonds you create with fellow Soldiers from past, current and future units.
Q: What would you change about the military service life?
A: The barrier between the National Guard, Reserves and the Active Component should not exist.
Q: Describe your military career.
A: I enlisted into the Army Reserves as a human resource specialist. In 2006, I volunteered to deploy as a combat engineer. After deployment, I was assigned to an Active Component/Reserve Component unit as an OC/T. Prior to being assigned as a training NCO, I was a personnel admin NCO.
Q: What do you like most about being stationed in Germany?
A: Being stationed in Germany gives my family and me the ability to travel throughout Europe
Q: What is your favorite movie genre?
A: I enjoy comedy and horror movies.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of my wife and my 2-year-old son. While being supportive of my military career, my wife works harder than anyone I know. She is currently working on her bachelor’s degree and is pursuing her dream of being an elementary teacher.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
A: I'd want pictures of my family, the sound-bite necklace my wife made for me for my last birthday and my son’s hot wheel motorcycle.
Q: Name someone who has influenced or inspired you during your military career and explain why.
A: Master Sgt. Long was my first mentor when I became an NCO. He showed me what it means to take care of Soldiers and also taught me the importance of military and civilian education.
Q: If you could meet one individual, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
A: I would like to spend one hour with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I think it would be awesome to work out with Mr. Universe.
