    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

CAMP PARKS, Calif. – First Lt. Kittrel Robinson, 90th Sustainment Brigade HHC commander, Little Rock, Arkansas, and 1st Sgt. Travis Young, 90th SBDE NCOIC, were key leaders who supported the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command during Big Logistics-Over-The-Shore, West exercise July 25 to August 4, which was conducted at Alameda Point, Military Ocean Terminal Concord and Camp Parks, California.

The 90th SBDE’s mission was to conduct port terminal operations and provide theatre distribution and sustainment in Phase IV of the BLW15 operation.

“The best part of this AT mission is the comradery that develops between the Soldiers of the 90th and the relationships that bind us,” said Robinson. “The hardest part is getting the troops to believe in my leadership and then leading them. Every Soldiers’ problem is my problem and together we solve them.”

During these exercises the Soldiers the 90th SBDE trained to learn the Battle Command Sustainment Support System and the Command Post of the Future.

A very important system, the U.S. Army’s CPOF is a C2 software system that allows commanders to maintain top-sight over the battlefield, collaborate with superiors, peers and subordinates over live data, and communicate their intent.

CPOF is managed by the Product Manager Tactical Mission Command at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and integrated with the Army's Maneuver Control System and other products.

“My job is to make sure that junior NCOs are taking care of their Soldiers,” said Young. “Keeping them gainfully employed and making sure that they are being trained is what AT is all about.”

The sustainment brigade is designed to provide mission command for combat support and combat service support units. It can be adjusted in size to support anywhere from one to ten brigade combat teams.

The 90th SBDE focused on mentoring newer Soldiers by Soldiers who have been in the unit for a while, making sure that these newer Soldiers are the standard barriers of the unit for years to come.

“I have been impressed by Lt. Robinson ever since I first met him,” said Lt. Col. Steven Smith, 90th SBDE deputy commander. “With a unit that has over 200 Soldiers, he knows every ones name and job. That is very telling.”

A sustainment brigade has a joint capability that allows the Army to better manage the flow of logistics into the area of operations and provides support to other services for common logistics like fuel, common ammo, medical supplies, repair parts of wheeled vehicles, and designed to operate independently in a theater of operations, in conjunction with other sustainment brigades.

The 311th ESC’s primary mission is to command the sustainment brigades that provide combat support and combat service support in the areas of supply, maintenance, transportation, field services and the functional brigades or battalions.
