Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas - The 912th Adjutant General Company, a U.S. Army Reserve company based out of Miami and the 72nd Military Police Company Forward 4, a Nevada Army National Guard unit out of Henderson, Nevada, departed the Silas L. Copeland Arrival/Departure Air Control Group airfield to complete deployments in the Middle East July 11.

The units completed pre-mobilization training at McGregor Range, New Mexico, under the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security, before departing on their nine-month deployments.

The 912th AG Company will complete a human resources support mission, which is a new mission and a pivot from their normal mission set as a postal unit.

“Everyone else is beans and bullets, but we are taking care of the Soldiers,” said 1st Lt. Joshua Lantrip, commander, 912th AG Company. “They like taking care of people, I like taking care of people, that’s our number one job.”

In-processing will be the primary focus for the 912th AG Co., Lantrip said. Although assisting Soldiers from all branches with administrative and personnel section issues will also be a part of their scope of services.

Lantrip expressed his thanks to Fort Bliss for their support training up for this deployment.

“I just want to give a shout out to the command here, the training command and DPTMS. They did a great job facilitating this,” said Lantrip. “It was a smooth process overall and my guys are ready to go, all thanks to them.”

The 72nd MP Company Fwd. 4, who also departed for a nine-month deployment, will provide support services as well, but of the personnel security variety.

“Think military version of Secret Service,” said Capt. Lorenzo Aranda, officer in charge, 72nd MP Company Fwd. 4. “[We will specialize in the] movement of high ranking personnel and important dignitaries from place to place.”

Aranda, who will be deploying for the first time, is ready for the high-profile environment that his Soldiers may experience as part of the security mission.

“Situational awareness was one of the key elements of their training and they are very proficient in that now,” said Aranda, who was also very focused on the “safety of our principles and of my Soldiers.”

“As a commander of a deploying unit I want nothing more than to bring the same number of people back to the U.S. as I left with,” continued Aranda when talking of the main goals of this deployment.

For Sgt. Seth Campbell, team leader, 3rd squad, 72nd MP Company Fwd. 4, using the anxiety of going on his first deployment to focus on the tasks at hand is a priority.

“I feel excited, really prepared, [but] everyone has that little fear in them, if you don’t, you’re not human,” Campbell said. “I just tell my guys to use that little bit of fear to better themselves, keep yourself on that edge, so that you are looking out, not complacent.”

After completing training and preparations at their respective home stations and here at Fort Bliss and McGregor Range, both units are ready to embark on their missions in the Middle East.

Addressing the families of his Soldiers, Lantrip said “Thank you all for your support and we’ll do our best to get home safe.”

Although many are deploying for the first time, they understand that their deployment is shared with their loved ones.

“I just want to thank the families for their sacrifice and encourage them to support their Soldiers while they are abroad with me,” Aranda said.
