DECATUR, Ga. – The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) renewed its affiliation with the Morehouse School of Medicine in an agreement signing July 30, 2015.
The ten-year agreement reaffirms Atlanta VAMC’s relationship with Morehouse that began in 2005, and is a further example of a mutual commitment to continued excellence in patient care to Veterans. In support of The Department of Veterans Affairs’ mission, "To educate for VA and for the Nation", the Atlanta VAMC maintains an education and training program for health professions students and residents to enhance the quality of care provided to Veteran patients within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) healthcare system.
Atlanta VAMC Associate Chief of Staff for Education Dr. Wilson Holland said that since affiliating with Morehouse School of Medicine in 2005, a growing number of Morehouse resident physicians and medical students have trained at the Atlanta VAMC. Morehouse also played a large role in the development of the Women’s Center of Excellence located at the Fort McPherson VA clinic. “ We look forward to our continued affiliation with Morehouse School of Medicine for years to come and adding them to the large number of physicians now practicing in Georgia who worked at a VA at some point of their training,” Holland said.
Holland said this affiliation allow trainees to be exposed to the unique and challenging problems in the Veteran population. “These affiliations continue to allow the Atlanta VAMC to be at the fore front of teaching and mentorship of the next generation of physicians.”
