SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Air National Guard Band of the Midwest is performing a variety of music as part of a summer concert series entitled “Heroes Among Us” this week during their summer tour that started in Eureka, Illinois, and includes tour stops in Iowa and South Dakota before returning to their home to Peoria, Illinois, at the end of the week.
The 566th Air Force Band is performing with a variety of ensembles, which include their Harmony in Blue, Permanent Party and Concert Band, performing both traditional and contemporary selections.
All of the musicians are traditional guard members, meaning they typically get together one weekend each month and two weeks during the summer, usually intended for concert tours in order to entertain and to tell the Air Guard story.
This year’s concert tour has them performing in Eureka, Sioux City, Iowa, then on to Sioux Falls, Hot Springs and Rapid City all in South Dakota.
The Band of the Midwest is attached to the 182nd Airlift Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, stationed at the Peoria Air Guard Base. Their primary area of responsibility is a 10-state region in the upper Midwest. Beyond that, the band performs for both civilian and military audiences throughout the United States and the world.
The mission of ANG Band is to support the global Air Force mission by preserving national heritage, providing professional musical products and services for official military, recruiting, and community relations events.
