    YONGSAN, South Korea - Rear Adm. William D. Byrne Jr. will relieve Rear Adm. Lisa M. Franchetti as Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea, Aug. 5, 2015, during a ceremony at Collier Community Fitness Center on U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan scheduled at 11:30 a.m.

    Franchetti will be assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Nine, San Diego, Calif.

    Byrne recently served as the 85th commandant of the U.S. Naval Academy, Washington, D.C.

    Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea is the regional commander for the U.S. Navy in the Republic of Korea and provides expertise on naval matters to area military commanders, including the Commander for the United Nations Command, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and U.S. Combined Forces Command, and Commander, U.S. Forces Korea.
