PHOENIX – The Arizona Army National Guard’s 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) welcomes a new commander during a ceremony here, July 11.
Col. Joseph Baldwin assumes command of the MEB after the previous commander, Col. John Hoefert, was selected as the Land Component Commander for the Arizona Army National Guard earlier this year.
Col. Joseph Baldwin is an Engineer Officer, and returns to Arizona after holding positions at the National Guard Bureau, the Department of the Army, and a deployment to Iraq. He was commissioned in the Army National Guard through ROTC at the University of North Alabama where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. His post-graduate education includes an MBA and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies.
“The Army National Guard is demonstrating that we can, and do provide manned, organized, equipped, and trained units to meet demand for both overseas contingency forces and defense support to civil authorities at home,” said Baldwin. “Our success is due to command emphasis on personnel readiness from the very top, throughout the chain of command, and to the thousands of individuals that are dedicated to improving the personnel health of our force every day.”
The 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade is a mission tailored force that conducts support area operations, maneuver support operations, and support to consequence management and stability operations in order to assure mobility, protection, and freedom of action for the supported force. The 158th has approximately 2,220 Soldiers throughout its four battalions; 1-158th Infantry Battalion, 850th Military Police Battalion, 153rd Brigade Support Battalion, and 253rd Engineer Battalion.
