SAN DIEGO – SeaWorld San Diego is scheduled to host Marines every day in July as part of their Waves of Honor to show their support for service members serving around the world.
Marines from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar are scheduled to be at SeaWorld each day for Waves of Honor as representatives of the Marine Corps worldwide. Those who participate are shown on the big screens at Shamu Stadium with their accomplishments announced for the crowd.
“I was selected by the Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 11 headquarters first sergeant and sergeant major to participate,” said Sgt. Jennifer Quinn, MAG-11 operations chief and a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native. “I was full of pride and honored to be able to represent the Marine Corps at SeaWorld.”
Waves of Honor is one of the ways SeaWorld thanks the military community, according to Anthony Flores, senior account executive and sales manager for SeaWorld San Diego and a San Diego native.
“This year will be the first time we have a service member representing for Waves of Honor every day for an entire month,” said Flores. “We are thankful for [MCAS Miramar’s] partnership and support.”
SeaWorld also celebrated Independence Day with a flag-raising ceremony in the morning and fireworks in the evening along with the scheduled Waves of Honor tribute. Marines with Marine Wing Communications Squadron (MWCS) 38 supported the flag-raising ceremony with a color guard.
“I usually do events for MAG-11 as a color bearer, but it was a little bit special for me because I was raising the flag on the Fourth of July,” said Cpl. Jasmine Stowe, volunteer coordinator for MAG-11 and a Chico, California, native. “I came here to represent the Marine Corps and my brothers and sisters who passed away in Afghanistan and my great grandfather who passed away in Iwo Jima.”
If you want to see the Waves of Honor tribute during your visit to SeaWorld in July, you can see their tribute at 12:55 p.m. before the OneOcean show at 1 p.m. at the Shamu Stadium.
