    Carrier Strike Group Four

NORFOLK, Va. - Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced this month Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 4 was among the recipients of the 2015 Safety Excellence Awards.

CSG-4 was chosen as the top command in the Emerging Safety Center of Excellence category in the competition, which recognizes Navy and Marine Corps units for unparalleled safety achievements during the previous fiscal year (FY).

Earlier this year, CSG-4 received the FY 2014 CNO Shore Safety Award. CNO and CMC safety award recipients automatically compete for SECNAV Safety Excellence Awards in their respective categories.

“It is an absolute honor to be selected by SECNAV for the Safety Excellence Award,” said Rear Adm. Richard Butler, CSG-4 commander. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the men and women of CSG-4, whose mission is to promote a culture of safety and readiness within our Atlantic Fleet combat forces.”

“Safety and risk management are indispensable to effectively prepare for and complete the Department of the Navy's mission, whether at home or deployed in harm's way,” SECNAV wrote in a Navy message announcing the award recipients. “Your safety accomplishments are proof positive of your commitment to mission, safety excellence, the nation, and to the Department of the Navy as a world class safety organization.”

Award recipients earn the right to fly the SECNAV Safety Flag for the next year and will receive a commemorative plaque during an awards ceremony scheduled for July.

CSG-4, including its tenant commands Tactical Training Group Atlantic (TTGL) and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGL), is a team of experienced Sailors, Marines and civilians, who mentor, train and assess Atlantic Fleet combat forces to forward deploy in support and defense of national interests. These experts shape the readiness of Atlantic Fleet Carrier Strike Groups (CSG), Expeditionary Strike Groups (ESG), Amphibious Readiness Groups (ARG) and Independent Deploying ships through live, at sea and synthetic training, as well as, academic instruction.
