PORT HUENEME, Calif. - Underwater Construction Team (UCT) 2 held a change of command ceremony on board Naval Base Ventura County, Calif., June 18.

Lt. Cmdr. Justin Spinks relieved Lt. Cmdr. Jason Fahy as commanding officer of UCT 2.

Capt. Christopher Kurgan, commander, Naval Construction Group (NCG) 1, was the presiding officer for the ceremony, and Capt. Scott Kraft, assigned to the office of the Chief of Naval Operations, was the guest speaker and gave the keynote address.

“By definition, if anyone is elite in the Navy, it’s you,” said Kraft. “This unit, for as small as it is, has impressively been all over this vast and expansive Pacific region - making contact with countless others, enabling success, stability, and prosperity; strengthening allies and partners; banking your unit’s credibility and leaving your indelible, distinct mark.”

Before reading his orders and relinquishing command of UCT 2, Fahy recounted his experiences as commanding officer and the lessons he learned from Sailors at the Team. Under his leadership, UCT 2 completed multiple deployments throughout the Pacific Area of Operations, providing mission-critical construction, maintenance, and repair to support Homeland Defense Programs, Theater Security Cooperation Programs, Department of State Initiatives, Fleet Support Requirements, and the global war on terror.

After assuming command, Spinks recognized Fahy for his strong leadership as commanding officer, and thanked the sailors of UCT 2 for their hard work and tireless effort to build such a successful command.

"To the men and women of UCT 2, I am humbled and overjoyed to be given the opportunity to serve you as your commanding officer, and I look forward to working with you over the next two years" said Spinks.

Underwater Construction Teams provided a capability for construction, inspection, repair, and maintenance of ocean facilities in support of Navy and Marine Corps operations including the repair of battle damage. The teams have the capability to support a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) amphibious assault, subsequent combat service support ashore and self-defense for their camp and facilities under construction and in an emergency or disaster, conduct disaster control and recovery operations.
