LAS VEGAS – Soldiers and airmen of the Nevada National Guard ushered in the new year with the band 3 Doors Down at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Dec. 31.
The meet-and-greet was a part of the band's salute to the National Guard and highlighted the band's new song "Citizen Soldiers."
"We were looking at making a song that showed our thanks to the American Soldiers when the National Guard Bureau approached us, then it became a collaborative effort," said band member Matt Roberts.
Guardsmen from several Nevada National Guard units came to greet the band members first hand.
"I'm very excited to meet the band, they are one of my all time favorites," said Pfc. Class Cody Minton of the Nevada Army Guard's 221st Cavalry. "It's not very often that an event like this happens."
Staff Sgt. Jonathon Pino, who was in town with the New Mexico National Guard's 64th Civil Support Team, said meeting the band was one of the highlights of 2007, even if the encounter took place on the last day of the year.
"This rates right up there with all of the other events in 2007," Pino said. "I think it's great that the band took time out of their busy schedule to meet us. Personally, I haven't heard their new song 'Citizen Soldier' yet, but I'm going to go out and buy the CD as soon as it's released."
