RALEIGH, N.C. – Logistic soldiers assigned to the North Carolina National Guard’s most diverse brigade received training about the U.S. Army’s newest acquisition program for supply, maintenance, property accountability and financial data at the 139th Regional Training Institute, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, March 2-13, 2015.

The units assigned to the 60th Troop Command are the first Army National Guard battalions, companies and detachments in the nation to receive the Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-Army) training.

“The North Carolina Army National Guard was selected to be the lead state for the fielding of GCSS-Army,” said Brian Gillespie, the 60th TC logistics officer. “Troop Command was selected due to being assigned a variety of units from combat arms, special operations and service support units.”

GCSS-Army is an evolutionary acquisition program, which will provide the Army an auditable enterprise business solution to maintain its combat effectiveness. It is a Systems Applications and Products (SAP) based program.

“It’s a pretty good program,” said Staff Sgt. Christopher McKinnon, the 440th Army Band Supply Sergeant. “The program is easier to navigate than the PBUSE program, which is the former program used by Army supply personnel to manage property.”

Numerous fortune 500 companies use SAP products to conduct day-to-day operations.

“The GCSS-Army program has made my unit logistic operations better, a lot better,” said McKinnon. “The hand receipts, now known in the system as collective slips, can be sent to my Soldier for them to digitally sign, instead of them having to come in to hand sign it.”

The 60th Troop Command is comprised of an assortment of units, all with distinct missions and purposes in the North Carolina National Guard. Its units include the 42nd Civil Support Team (WMD); 5th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment; North Carolina Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion; B Company, 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne); B Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Special Operations Detachment-X; NCNG Medical Detachment; 163rd Area Support Medical Company; 430th Ordnance Company (EOD); 130th Military History Detachment; 382nd Public Affairs Detachment and the 440th Army Band.
