    COLFAX, N.C. - Army Brig. Gen. Kenneth Beard, the North Carolina National Guard's assistant adjutant general - sustainment and a director with R J Reynolds Tobacco, joined business peers, non-profit leaders, academics and staff at the dedication of the Guilford Technical Community College Donald W. Cameron Campus here, June, 10, 2015.

    The campus staff invited the experts to the opening of the campus and panel discussion dedicated to logistics and supply chain training and education.

    “Skills matter and investments in people guarantees a return,” said William Collins, assistant secretary of the division of workforce solutions, North Carolina Department of Commerce.

    The event is a blend of presentations, speeches, and networking to improve employment and education opportunities.

    “I encourage you [business leaders] let us know what you are looking for,” said Collins.

    The open house shows the logistics campus is ideally located a few miles north-west of Greensboro and near I-40, I-85, U.S. 311 and Piedmont Triad International Airport. It is not purely classrooms, library and computer labs but a practical, hands on environment. Much of the building is a modern warehouse that can be designed to exactly match a local business facility so students and be ready the first day on the job.

    “The number one thing businesses look for is a trained workforce and the second is transportation,” Charles Edwards, executive director, North Carolina Center for Global Logistics.

    Guests, students and staff move to the auditorium for a question and answer session on major issues facing the logistics industry. Beard, both a business executive and veteran, encouraged the employers at the panel discussion to take advantage of what his fellow Guard members can provide.

    “They are available to you. When you hire [NCNG Soldiers and Airmen], you get someone trained with skills who can work on a team,” said Beard.

    The campus’ current curriculum is dedicated to logistics, computer information and database management, training for Triad area businesses and real estate training.
