BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Staff Sgt. Asam Raja, 455th Medical Operations Squadron diagnostic imagery technician, provides X-ray support for the intensive care unit, operating room and outpatient clinic. When a military or civilian member is injured, Raja and his team provide quick support. Whether it’s providing CAT scans or doing x-rays to identify broken bones or detecting vascular tears, Raja gets them well and ready to support the Bagram mission.
“Without us here in radiology, the emergency room and a lot of other places would come to a halt,” Raja said. “They wouldn’t know what’s broken or what’s going on inside the body; it would be difficult to get accurate patient care. My team and I are very important to the mission; we play a part in making sure all of our people are fit, healthy and ready to support.”
Raja is part of the “1,000s of Hands” of 455th AEW Airmen who are critical to the wing’s mission to generate and sustain airpower on the combat frontier of Afghanistan for NATO’s Resolute Support mission and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The “1,000s of Hands” project highlights Vulture Airmen who have a hand in delivering a blanket of steel, technology and courage to protect the force in the field and support Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
