VALLEJO, Calif. – The 308th Chemical Company bid farewell to its commander and welcomed a new company commander during a change of command ceremony June 6 in Vallejo, California.
Capt. Jason Kim, outgoing commander of the 308 Chemical Company, gave parting remarks to his Soldiers after more than two years of command.
"Thank you for rallying behind me and exceeding all of my expectations," said Kim, a Tacoma, Washington, native. "This unit is truly a gem."
The 308 Chemical Company coordinates chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense systems and procedures to protect units from CBRN attacks. Kim noted how the unit had received several battalion and brigade awards during his tenure, including a notable safety award.
“We take care of work,” said Spc. Jonathan Juarez, a utilities equipment repairer with the 308 Chemical Company, and Soledad, California, native. “We get it done right away.”
“[The 308th] is one of the top, if not the top, chemical unit in all the Reserves,” said Lt. Col. Leslie Martin, commander of the 453rd CBRN Battalion. “I still expect great things and have full faith that they can continue that tradition.”
Capt. Joseph Sweat, the incoming commander of the 308 Chemical Company, emphasized the importance of Soldier support going forward.
“I want the 308 to know that we are here for them, and every Soldier is here for each other, from private to First Sergeant,” said Sweat.
Sweat also looks forward to developing his new Soldiers.
“It’s good to see how the junior Soldiers grow and develop, and in turn develop the newer Soldiers.”
Kim offered one last piece of advice to his former unit, “Care. I would say if they continue to care about each other, the unit, and themselves, it’ll be a better unit and better Soldiers.”
