CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. – The U.S. Army has invested in realistic training that enhances military tactics for today’s modern warfare, in which soldiers of the 184th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) are currently engaged.
The Warfighter, a two-week multi-echelon exercise that helps identify and cover a range of critical skills and services soldiers need to thrive on the battlefield, allows Brig. Gen. Gregory L. Kennedy to effectively assess and lead his 200 soldier strong theater logistics command unit based out of Laurel and Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The exercise is being held at the historic National Guard Base Camp Atterbury and involves National Guard and reserve units from around the country.
The 184th hosted a rehearsal of concept (ROC) drill, which allows the command staff to rehearse its plan in committing resources required for success of the upcoming mission. Deputy Commander of the 184th Sustainment Command, Col. Clint E. Walker participated in the rehearsal.
“The rehearsal of concept drill is an important tool,” said Walker. “It aids the commander’s ability to visualize the battlefield on a smaller scale and foresee certain things that cannot be seen on a traditional map."
Command Sgt. Maj. Tommy Campbell believes this experience provides value in many ways.
“Attending this warfighter helps and build cohesion within the staff as well as prepare for future deployments,” said Campbell.
The benefit of this Warfighter experience will give the citizen soldiers from Mississippi, the ability to be more resilient and effective in facing future challenges at home or abroad.
