FORT EUSTIS, Va. - As the summer months begin to warm the days, the U.S. Army Training Doctrine and Command Band is preparing to warm the evenings with their 83rd season of “Music Under the Stars” at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

The long standing tradition performed by the band, which started in 1932 at nearby Fort Monroe in Hampton, will begin its summer series June 4 at 7 p.m., and will take place every Thursday until Aug. 27.

The band plays for a variety of patrons, ranging from veterans to young active duty Service members. It’s the concert goers who drive the band to play full-heartedly.

“Knowing that we get to perform for those who serve, and have served is an encouraging reminder of why we are here,” said Army Sgt. Megan Van Oudenaren, TRADOC Band unit vocalist. “They have done their time, and we are able to give back to them and serve them by being here.”

During the weekly summer performances, concert goers can expect to hear a large variety of music played by different groups within the TRADOC Band. Those in attendance for the Army’s birthday performance, June 11, will also witness a special Army Birthday celebration. The series will conclude with 1812 Overture, said Van Oudenaren.

Those who want to attend Music Under the Stars and do not have a Department of Defense identification card can save time entering the installation by visiting www.tradocband.com and downloading a Fort Eustis vehicle pass application in advance.

The concert series is free and open to the public. It is located at Magnolia Park on Fort Eustis. Pets, food and drinks are allowed at all performances.
