FORT BENNING, Ga. – During a recent conversation with his wife, Spc. Alexander Makinano wanted to do something different and unique to enjoy their first re-enlistment ceremony.

Spc. Marissa Makinano agreed and felt that doing it during a 75th Ranger Regiment airborne operation was a way to remember such an occasion.

Alexander, Regimental Special Troops Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, and Marissa, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, re-enlisted for an additional three years of military service aboard a C-130 aircraft above Fryar Drop Zone at Fort Benning, May 21. They celebrated their military commitment the same weekend of their second wedding anniversary.

Both are stationed together at Fort Benning, and both serve as 12Y Geospatial Engineers.

“It was a challenge finding the time between our schedules to get to do this,” said Alexander, a native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. “She just returned from a training exercise with her unit, and I am preparing to go do one with my unit.”

Their idea and timetable for a re-enlistment ceremony was passed along to their units’ career counselors and leadership.

“The leadership from both commands was excited and supportive for what we wanted to do,” said Marissa, a native of Loveland, Colorado. “This is something that we will remember for a long time.”

For now, the couple is satisfied with how their military careers have unfolded and continue to strive towards their goals. Both are planning to work towards promotion and Alexander plans to attend Ranger School within the year.

“We both enjoy what we do and the opportunities that are available to us,” Alexander said. “I especially enjoy my job because of the unique training and experience as a 12Y. And I get the opportunity to jump out of planes, it’s enjoyable.”

A Geospatial Engineer is one of the more than 60 job opportunities in the 75th Ranger Regiment. The 75th Ranger Regiment is continuously looking for energetic and highly-motivated individuals to fill its ranks.
