SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. - Airmen plunged into Woodland Pool Memorial Day weekend for its seasonal grand opening, May 22.
The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is located between the Palmetto chapel and the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center.
Amenities around the pool area include a water slide, wading pool, and large sun deck. Changing rooms and showers are available at the pool house.
The pool offers swimming lessons, adult lap swim, open swim, and pool parties.
"We try to provide the best service that we can for all our military members and have a safe and enjoyable summer," said Tim Godwin, 20th Force Support Squadron outdoor recreation director. "We want everybody to come here and know that we take a lot of pride in watching the pool."
There is a minimum of four lifeguards on duty during open swim hours and two lifeguards during adult lap swim hours.
Even though lifeguards are present, parents are encouraged to look after their children while in the pool area.
Some pool side safety tips include: no running on the pool deck, be knowledgeable of physical swimming abilities, no diving or flipping on the shallow side of the pool, and only one person on the water slide at a time.
The pool can assist the Airmen with fitness and is a safe place for them to spend special bonding time with their kids, said Victoria Barwick, 20th FSS lifeguard.
Early morning lap swim will begin June 8 at 6:30 a.m.
