HOHENFELS, Germany -The Joint Multinational Readiness Center's Adler Observer/Coach-Trainer team put together a tactical exercise for the 1st Brigade 3rd Infantry Division Soldiers here, May 23, during exercise Combined Resolve IV, or CbRIV.

Team Adler combined a series of realistic scenarios to test Soldiers on combat readiness and help prepare them for possible situations that may arise while on the battlefield.

During the riot control exercise, civilian role-players screamed in Soldiers' faces, banged on the vehicles, tried to take away their weapons, and took hostages in hopes of teaching them to be more aware of their surroundings. Each tactic was a lesson on how to maintain control when dealing with an angry crowd.

"We try to replicate reality as much as we can by using doctrine and lessons learned," said Sgt. 1st Class Jose Garcia, Team Adler, senior non-commissioned officer observer controller.

During the vehicle and patient recovery segment, observer coaches replicated a vehicle being hit by an improvised explosive device which caused a vehicle to roll down a steep hill leaving four casualties injured. Medics were then sent to assess and recover all Soldiers injured, performing first aid measures as needed.

According to Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Decola, Team Adler, senior NCO medic, the objective of the mission was for the soldiers to recover the casualties first, and then retrieve the MRAP as a team while under heavy fire.

"We try to continue to improve the scenarios to help give better training, coaching and mentoring to the Soldiers in our lanes," said Garcia.

CbRIV trains the Army's Regionally Aligned Forces supporting U.S. European Command - the 4th Infantry Division headquarters and the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division - to operate within a coalition structure alongside NATO allies.
