Headquarters building construction to benefit entire base

    460th Space Wing

AURORA, Colo. - Since last winter, the 460th Space Wing Headquarters building has been under construction to accommodate for the relocation of some of 460th Wing Staff Agencies and the 460th Comptroller Squadron.

“The original design was no longer compatible for its use,” said Kevin Stocking, 460th Wing Plans and Programs director. “What we did is we took an open area and broke it into three offices. Each of those offices now has a sufficient space to fulfill their duties and responsibilities at this time.”

Before the transformation of the headquarters building , the 460th Inspectors General, 460th Equal Opportunity and the Sexual Assault Resource Center employees had been dispersed to other locations on and off base. With the construction to the new wing of the headquarters building finished on April 14, the wing staff agencies have begun settling in to their new offices and providing services to Team Buckley.

“It ended up being a home run here,” said Larry Tunnicliff, 460th IG. “This quadrant of the building was not being used. It was put to good use for the SARC, EO and the IG function.”

One of the best improvements are the insulated interior walls and white noise sound system, which provide a safe, sound proof place for victims to talk. With the nature of work SARC and EO, customers need to feel like their discussions cannot be overheard and they’re having a private conversation, Stocking said.

The 460th EO, IG and SARC will now be located on the bottom floor of the 460th Headquarters Building and the CPTS is expected to be in their new offices within the next few weeks. The CPTS will soon be separated into two offices, both still in the headquarters building.

Tunnicliff and Stocking agree that the new construction will be a positive change for not only the 460th, but the entire base.

“The benefit will be to the entire base,” Tunnicliff said. “The agencies that are now utilizing this space efficiently are resourced better to do their jobs, therefore the dominos and consequences on the wing are going to directly impact everyone on base.”
