BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - Airmen from the 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron performed exercises and demonstrations as part of National Police week May 11 -17.

National Police week, which was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, is observed in recognition of the service and sacrifice that members of U.S. law enforcement agencies make to maintain public safety and security.

“This is my first deployment and to be able to perform these exercises during police week is truly an honor,” said Airman 1st Class Michelle Lindo, 455th ESFS, internal security response team member. “With my job knowledge I know I’m fully capable of completing any task that may pose a threat to the base here, whether it is during police week or any other day.”

During the week, the SFS Airmen who are also members of the internal security response team demonstrated a response to an insider threat in which the team reacted to a duress situation that required them to use their knowledge and skills taught prior to deploying.

“As an NCO, I train my Airmen but I also perform alongside them. So, if a threat arises I’m confident that we all, no matter what rank we are, will defend the base to the best of our ability…helping each other out along the way,” said Tech. Sgt. Rico Preston, 455th ESFS, external security response leader. “The Airmen already work hard on a daily basis, but the experience of being able to be deployed during police week is a great experience and motivation for them.”

Although the national observance is only five days, the 455th ESFS Defenders do their best to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice by performing their duties the best they can every day.

“We’re grateful for those who have paid the price for us to be able to do our jobs today, and we will continue to work towards the mission and keep Bagram safe,” Preston said.
