CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University’s Army and Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps units held a joint ceremony to commission 36 officers May 7. Nineteen students received commissions into the U.S. Army, and 17 students received commissions into the U.S. Air Force.
The ceremony featured guest speaker U.S. Navy Rear Adm. James McNeal, who serves as commander of Naval Supply System Command, Global Logistics Support. It is headquarters to a network of eight fleet logistics centers around the world that provide an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy and joint operational units.
Following their commissioning, the new lieutenants participated in a Silver Dollar Salute ceremony on Military Heritage Plaza. This ceremony marks the first salute received by the new officer from an enlisted member. As a sign of mutual respect, the officer presents the enlisted member with a silver dollar.
