HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - Every year between May and September, the Travel Management Office at Holloman Air Force Base experiences a high volume of service members moving to locations worldwide.
The TMO office here requires service members to give 30 day notification to schedule household goods pack and pick up dates.
“Once they have received their assignment orders, members are required to go through Defense Personal Property System’s self-counseling, in order to create their shipments,” said Tech. Sgt. Shobha Parker, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron Noncommissioned Officer In Charge, passenger travel and personal property section. “Creating the shipments through DPPS will ease the hassle of coming into the office for a 90-minute mass briefing, making it easier for everyone.”
The only exception to DPS self-counseling is for members requiring non-temporary storage.
“People who require non-temporary storage include those who are separating, retiring or going to an overseas assignment where full joint federal travel regulation weight allowance is not authorized,” said Parker.
Once self-counseling is complete, members can contact the TMO office and submit the necessary documents. This process takes approximately 15 minutes.
The TMO duty hours are Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, the office is open for emergencies only. In case of questions, the TMO customer service desk can be reached at (575)572-3489.
The TMO personal property section will also provide counseling opportunities at the monthly “Plan Your Move” seminar at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.
Service members and their spouses are encouraged to attend the seminar, which is held on the last Thursday of the month. Additionally, directions to self-counseling and other helpful information can be found on Holloman’s SharePoint.
