CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – U.S. Army Central held a “Cyber Bowl” on Camp Arifjan to promote cyber awareness and security April 28-30.

Using a Super Bowl theme, the conference was reminiscent of a National Football League convention that portrayed cyber security as an ongoing battle to out play adversaries who prey on relaxed security settings and complacent users to hack into an organization’s network.

“It’s not really the war of tomorrow. It’s more like the war going on right now,” said Nate McKenzie, an information assurance officer with USARCENT.

McKenzie was one of several guest speakers from various occupations in computer security and information assurance who spoke to attendees on the ever evolving landscape of the digital world. They cited cases that resulted in the leak of classified material or the loss of corporate profits in the private sector.

The Cyber Bowl included interactive exercises that split attendees into teams to solve network vulnerability issues for a hypothetical business. Points were awarded to the team that came up with the most innovative answer.

The event was held to promote cyber awareness and security, portraying the digital landscape as an ongoing battle to outmaneuver adversaries who prey on relaxed security settings and complacent users to hack into an organization’s network.
