Story by Staff Sgt. Richard Wrigley

    3rd Infantry Division

FORT STEWART, Ga. - The U.S. Army vice chief of staff, Gen. Daniel B. Allyn, visited Fort Stewart, April 28-29.

The VCSA is no stranger to the area as he served as the commander of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Sledgehammers,” 3rd Infantry Division, earlier in his career.

While here, he took the time to pay his respects to fellow comrades who had made the ultimate sacrifice, and are memorialized at Warriors Walk, a living memorial to those who were killed in action while serving in the 3rd Infantry Division during the last 12 years of conflict.

After paying his respects, he sat down with senior leaders of the 3rd ID and conducted a leadership development brief.

“I always felt as a leader that if someone has to come into my formation and fix something that is my responsibility, I’m a failure,” said Allyn during his brief. “That’s the ownership that we want every team, every squad, every formation to embrace - and when we get that, it’s going to be amazing the number of current challenges that the Army is facing which concurrently get addressed.”

He later went on to attend an award ceremony with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, held at Hunter Army Airfield.
