SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. - Periodic - and in some cases, frequent - deployments are the norm for the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

In both calendar year 2013 and 2014, about 200 Michigan Air National Guard Airmen from Selfridge deployed to support various operations. Also in each of those years, hundreds more deployed to support short-term training exercises. In 2015, about 500 Michigan Airmen from the base are expected to deploy to support ongoing operations. Meanwhile, exercises continue to keep the Wing's Airmen fully trained.

"Right now, we are the most tested and experienced force in the history of the Air National Guard," said Brig. Gen. Leonard Isabelle, Jr., commander of the Michigan ANG.

The 127th Air Refueling Group, a component of the 127th Wing at Selfridge, will be deploying a significant number of personnel and KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft to the U.S. Pacific Command this summer, to support ongoing operations there. The ARG - which includes the 171st Air Refueling Squadron and the 191st Maintenance and Aircraft Maintenance squadrons - has deployed to the Pacific Command in both large- and small-scale movements on a more or less annual basis over the past several years. The ARG also had a nearly continuous presence in Central Command, typically one aircraft, air crew and support personnel, from 2011 to 2014.

Other large-scale deployments in recent years have included the 127th Wing's Security Forces Squadron in 2014 and 2011, the Civil Engineer Squadron in 2011 and Fighter and related Maintenance Squadrons in 2011.

    About the 127th Wing
Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command and Air Combat Command operations by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 98th year of continuous military air operations in 2015.
