NAF MISAWA, Japan - Navy commands located at Misawa Air Base, Japan recognized their civilian employees during a ceremony at Naval Air Facility (NAF), Misawa April 21.
The employees were recognized for the contributions they made at their commands within the last year.
Cmdr. James Schmitt, NAF Misawa’s executive officer, gave opening remarks at the ceremony and thanked the employees for their hard work.
"The Sailors that get stationed here come and go while you all remain. The experience you have built during your many years of experience on the job is irreplaceable. You are our continuity and that in itself should tell you how important you are to our mission,” said Schmitt.
All of the employees who were recognized are Japanese citizens who have worked in their respective commands for periods spanning years longer than a Sailor’s normal duty assignment.
“It was very nice to be recognized at the ceremony. It reminds us how much they appreciate what we do for the Navy,” said Sachiko Sugimura, an administrative assistant at NAF Misawa’s information technology office.
Navy Misawa’s civilian employees have helped keep production levels up during daily operations and while training newly arrived Sailors.
